We are the New Zealand arm of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat based in Fiji. We focus on export-capable businesses across the Pacific Islands. We promote and support exporters from these Pacific Island countries, in New Zealand. We also identify Investment opportunities in the 14 Pacific Islands that we represent - Cook Islands, Micronesia (FSM), Fiji Islands, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Papaua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Niue.
We work together with interested parties to advance Pacific Islands businesses in trade facilitation, business investment development & tourism promotion, in order to build a better future through more sustainable communities and greater prosperity.
We are the only Pacific Islands agency tasked by leaders to develop, grow and promote industry, the businesses, tourism and investment prospects in Pacific Island countries.
As the Auckland-based Trade Commissioner of PT&I (NZ), Michael’s responsibilities include providing appropriate market support to Forum Island Countries in facilitating trade, and in particular support for exports of Pacific Island products to NZ, and inward investments into the Pacific Islands. Michael has hands on private sector experience in export trading, including in the Pacific, particularly in horticulture and agricultural products. His expertise includes marketing, value chain processes, joint venture dealings and market matchmaking. He has previously served as Trade Commissioner for New Zealand Trade & Enterprise in Fiji and has wide experience in the Pacific Islands region.
Manuel leads inward investment initiatives into the Pacific Islands. He has led several investment missions. He is an economist and investment banker with over 20 years’ experience of business development, joint ventures, inward investment promotion, financial loan packaging on key strategic industries and market research. Manuel worked with key businessmen helping deliver workable business plans for loans and business expansion. He was business consultant to international credit institutions and potential investors in the Philippines. Manuel holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics at the University of the Philippines and a Master of Arts in Applied Business Economics at the University of Asia and the Pacific.
Joe connects export-ready and export-capable businesses from the Pacific Islands to potential buyers in New Zealand. His role entails the delivery of an effective engagement strategy that evaluates market opportunities for Pacific Island companies; connect companies to these commercial opportunities; and the promotion Pacific Island products and services in the NZ market. Joe joined PT&I in 2008, as an intern in the Trade facilitation programme. During his time at PT&I, he has worked across a range of programmes including export promotion, market research, stakeholder reporting and CRM management for the Auckland office. He holds Bachelor of Commerce and Master of International Business degrees from the University of Auckland.
Ian has a strong business background having worked withg both large and small companies in New Zealand. He has held senior leadership roles with Coca Cola Amatil in New Zealand and has also spent three years as Coca Cola General Manager based in Fiji with responsibility for several Pacific Island countries. During this time, Ian developed a strong interest in economic development in the Pacific and upon his return to NZ in 2008 become General Manager of the Pacific Business Mentoring Programme. The objective of this programme was to help business to grow and prosper and over 1100 businesses have participated across 10 Pacific Island countries namely Cook Islands, Fiji, PNG, Vanuatu, Samoa, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Tuvalu and Niue
Dev is Marketing & Communications Manager. He leads the marketing and promotion activities of the Auckland office and coordinates communications initiatives across the network both for offices and PT&I clients. Dev has initiated and edited the PT&I Pacific Periscope e-newsletter and the quarterly Trade Winds journal for more than four years. He also coordinates PT&I’s social media presence. Dev has wide media experience in the Pacific where he has published widely and has headed the Journalism Programme at the University of the South Pacific. He also has business and communications experience working on three continents.
Eleanor began working with PT&I after completing a Bachelor of Communications at AUT University in Auckland and is currently one of the officers in the Communications and Marketing Team. Her team is responsible for telling everyone about the great clients, their businesses and all the wonderful Pacific products through PT&I’s communications channels, the Pacific Periscope e-newsletter, Facebook and LinkedIn pages and via YouTube. Eleanor helps Pacific businesses trumpet and champion their products or services by arranging media interviews or distributing media releases, providing opportunities to promote Pacific companies new to the international arena.
